Flashback: You’re 10 years old and are convinced to watch a movie about a guy named Freddy Krueger. Two weeks later your night terrors are taking over as you feel like you’re having your own Nightmare on Elm Street. Looking back it was a foolish endeavor but you can now confront your fears and come face to face with the house that started it all.

So grab your slasher film friends and head to one of the best happy hours in the city for a “confront your childhood fears” pre-game. When this is all over you’re gonna sleep like a baby.

St0p #1: One Hour Before Sunset

Pick Your Poison

at an old school happy hour

What to Know

The happy hour here is incredible. Starting at 4:20pm everyday: $4.20 drinks including Purple Haze beer and their famous Tequila Tangs. On their “Tuesdaze” happy hour lasts until 11pm.

You’ll notice the rustic, metallic interior. This building, althought not original, stands at the location of the Gardner & Sunset train station which closed in 1954. Inside you’ll find aesthetic homages to it’s train car days.

To start the Freddy Krueger lore early on head to the right on the bar where an old school boiler is now a strange “fire place”.

St0p #2: Just before Sunset

Test Your Nerves

at Freddy’s house

What to Know

The 1985 film was set in the fictional Springwood, OH. However, all locations were filmed here in Los Angeles. This location is the home of Nancy, the main actress in the film. If you remember horific scenes of Freddy attacking a girl in her sleep, this is where they took place.

If you can believe it this is Johnny Depp’s film debut. He plays Glen Lantz, Nancy’s boyfriend. In the film his house is across the street from Nancy’s. It’s true in real life where they shot: 1419 Genessee Ave.

The film’s creator Wes Craven was denied by almost every studio in town until he connected with New Line Cinema. This being their first film it was a major gamble. Luckily it became a smash hit coining New Line as the “Hous that Freddy Built”.

Turns out Freddy is based off a real life character, kinda. Wes Craven named his slasher after his real life childhood bully, Fred Krueger.

St0p #3: After Elm Street House

Eat All The Treats

 at a hidden patio

What to Know

This is the second installment of the famed Laurel Canyon joint Pace. Good news you can get the same pizzas like the Zeus, Mamma G’s, and Hercules Pie for even less.

It’s an interesting entrance with the counter/kitchen being the first place you stop. No one will be in there but dont be alarmed the seating is out back on the patio.

What to get: Zeus Pie, Ceasar Salad, and finally, the Ribs. (also, ask about their wine)
