Before the Date…

Getting into zen mode may seem like a new thing here in LA but up the coast there’s a place that’s been silently ohming for decades. This afternoon helps balance your chakras all while opening your eyes to a new way to see the city: peacefully. With an organic smoothie to start off the day your heart rate sinks to eternally low levels as you make your way past Ghandi’s ashes. A beautiful reminder of a world conquered by calm.

So bless your partner with an afternoon sipping and meditating along the coast. Namaste.

St0p #1: 2hrs to sunset

JUICE

from an organic love den

What to Know

Yes, this juice bar is absolutely owned by two ladies, Magal and Kinzie.

Believe it or not here is a valet guy out front. So LA. It is complimetery for customers.

If you’re in a rush you can call in your order and not even get out of your car. On the North side of the shop is a tiny drive through window.

The juices and smoothies are all made from top notch ingredients. Suggest: Love Juice, Go With the Flow, and our personal favorite, Super Sexy.

Make sure you ask them to put it in a to go cup. If you don’t they will put it in a regular glass, which is nice but you’ve got places to be.

St0p #2: 1.5hrs to sunset

MEDITATE

around a historic lake

What to Know

This gorgeous guru hang out opened in 1950 and had quite an interesting leader, Paramahansa Yogananda. For an in depth understanding tour the small museum to the right of the entrance. It’s a great place to start.

After the museum follow the lake to the left. That way you can end with the grand finale, a shrine with a small amount of Mahatma Ghandi’s ashes.

If the windmill church is open it’s worth taking a moment to sit there silently.

For Next Time: On top of the hill above Ghandi’s ashes is a temple with meditations and non-denominational services dedicated to finding Raja Yoga or Royal Yoga.

St0p #3: just before sunset

SIP

a peaceful cocktail overlooking mother pacific

What to Know

This restaurant and bar has been a classic since 1972. Just head straight at the bottom of Sunset Blvd. to hand your car off to yet another valet.

There are a few great spots to hang at this joint. Games out front, the bar, but, the best for the sunset is on the other side of the window in the dining room. It may look like it is closed but it is absolutely open and directly above the sand.

One of the cocktails is called “The Mayor”. It’s a $200 pour of Japanese whiskey and a copy of Mayor Richard Riordan’s autobiography, The Mayor.

They have a Golden Hour menu on Mon-Fri 3-7pm with $5 beer & cocktails, $7 wine, and $7 bites including macadamia shrimp, tuna tartare, and friend clams.

What to order: bowls of clam chowder,  a T&T, or just go for a bottle of rosé.
