Before the Date…
The Hollywood nightlife insanity zone may be less desireable for some. However, if a few rocks are turned over it reveals some gems among the madness. That’s what we learned from foodie extraordinaire @amayzingeats when she took us and her foodie compadre @relsreviews on a mission to eat, drink, and game it up.
So call up your foodie friends and prepare yourselves for a night of laughing it up before tearing it up.
St0p #1: 7pm
HAPPY HOUR
on a Euro style rooftop
What to Know
This Euro hotel group is super funky with an 8 person foosball table on the first floor, eclectic cocktails and a view from the rooftop unlike anywhere else in Hollywood.
First order of business when you get on the roof is acquiring one of the loungers/beds. These are tough to come by at primetime hours but if you’re arriving around 6:45pm you should be able to score one.
What to order: Sunshine Mule or a pitcher of Red Sangrias. They both visually match the mood of the moment and are delicious.
The charcuterie board, definitely enough for two people and comes with all the accouterments. Other food: Crispy Pork Belly Taco and Tempura Cauliflower.
St0p #2: 8:30pm
PARTY TIME
at a hidden backyard patio
What to Know
The house that this speakeasy is housed in is the Janes House. Built in 1902 it was the last and oldest remaining victorian on Hollywood Blvd. until it was moved to its current location in 1985. In a previous life it was a private kindergarten for the children of Hollywood’s elite like Charlie Chaplin and Jesse Lasky.
You’ll arrive in the sweet spot, that 30 minutes before it gets too busy when can easily get a drink at the bar.
Sip your cocktail by the fire outside next to the “greenhouse”. Chill and relax while the groups pour in.
If you plan to take a photo in the photo booth remember, there’s a light switch to the right when you sit down.
St0p #3: After Party
GAME ON
in an unlikely carnival style basement
What to Know
The Carnival Game as we know it was introduced during the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago. This was the first time an area was solely dedicated to sideshows, burlesque, rides and, of course, games of chance.
A new circus-ish themed spot from Houston Hospitality situated right behind No Vacancy. Turns out there is a hidden tunnel connecting these and their other bar in the middle, Dirty Laundry.
Here’s the move. Make a left at the bottom of the outside stairs, head to the middle of the room up the inside stairs, spin the “wheel of destiny” and act appropriately. Then grab a drink and walk back towards the front but go past the entrance to the carnival game room.
You’ll play all the amazing carnival games like you’re an 8 year old again. Between 9pm -10pm they have free game play with no prizes. Practice your game because after 10pm it’s $2/game but the winning prize is a drink ticket. Not a bad deal if you can score.
As of writing this the head of the games name is Bili, she is awesome but dont cross her. Tips are greatly appreciated.
