Before the Date…
Reminders of the heroes of Tinsel Town scatter the LA landscape in droves. One of the most sacred places for these conquerers of the screen and stage is their final resting places. Very few locations in the city hold more buried star power than a small “park” hidden behind a few tall buildings in Westwood. From a film house to paying homage to welcoming young talent into the scene this DTC is dedicated to the actors who have made it big and make it their mission to be big.
So text your thesbian friends to congregate amongst the long gone but not forgotten on a night celebrating their passions.
St0p #1: 1.5 hours to sunset
SMALL PLATES
from a dramatic chef
What to Know
If you drove. Parking is in the underground garage behind the restaurant/theater. It’s only $3 and lasts all night.
The Executive Chef is Sherry Yard, winner of Top Chef Season 1. She left clues about her life all over the place like her husbands first skateboard and the infinity signs scattered about. Ask your waiter about it, apparently there’s clues no one has found.
Reservations aren’t necessary needed but suggested on prime time nights. Resquesting the naturally lit area by the bar makes for good ambiance.
On Thursdays and Tuesdays there is a solid $5 happy hour all day/night long.
Drink order: If you want to keep the theme grab a Norma Jean cocktail, its delicious.
Alternative: Go classic Westwood with Flame Persian Cuisine. Then swing by Saffron & Rose for interesting ice cream flavors before Stop #2.
St0p #2: 30 min before sunset
PAY HOMAGE
to heros of the screen and stage
What to Know
The park closes right at dusk. Arriving 30 minutes before the sunset will give you enough time.
Start by walking straight down the road hugging the right side of the park. Follow it around to see most of the biggest celebs in the sites to the right after you turn the corner, like Rodney Dangerfield.
Between Joe Dimaggio, Hugh Hefner, and thousands of fans the story behind Marilyn’s grave is incredible.
If you see a person who looks like they work there it is very well worth it to ask where to go. For example, Frank Zappa is buried without a headstone, but they know where.
St0p #3: 6pm
Catch Some Laughs
with young LA Talent
What to Know
Try to arrive 10 minutes early. Just enough time to grab “refreshments” next door to bring inside 😉
This is a small theater so seats can be tricky to come by together for large groups. Earlier arrival the better for this situation. Plus, sometimes they have free pizza before the show.
This is a “suggested donation” show as the theater is a non for profit. If you don’t have cash you can donate with Venmo.
Please take a look at their schedule and plan accordingly with regards to timing of the sunset. It’s a fun 10 minute walk through Westwood to get here so an 8pm show would work well with a 7:45pm sunset. DM us if you have questions.
If there is a large time gap before your showtime grab a drink at Rocco’s or Seventy7 West.
