Before the Date…

Scattered throughout the Los Angeles landscape are tiny vortexes of peace and hippiedome that have survived the onslaught of million dollar listings and boujie boutiques. In this modern day the challenge of living a 100% fairy lifestyle here is difficult but for a day you can frolic like it’s 1969 before reminding yourself its a new millenium.

So kick off those shoes and head to the hills for an afternoon tossing discs and drinking heady beers.

St0p #1: 2 hours pre-sunset

DISC GOLF

What to Know

All of disc golf can be credited to one man, “Steady Ed” Headrick. He invented the sport, patented the Disc Pole Hole, opened the first disc golf course, and created the Disc Golf Association.

This mellow operation costs $7 on weekends plus $5 to rent discs. As for the discs you’ll only need a driver and a putter.

It runs by your standard disc golf course “rules” so bring along some cans if you’d like and smoking isn’t prohibited.

Finishing 9 holes takes about an hour for 2 people. The course is laid out so you can go multiple routes. Ask your fellow “golfer” which way to go, who knows you might make some new friends.

Bring an extra shirt in the car. You will get a little sweaty.

St0p #2: 45min till sunset

SUNSET DRINKS

What to Know

This is a restaurant, bar, and wedding venue above DeBell. They just went through a massive remodel and opened on May 3rd, 2019.

As you ascend to the top of the hill left takes you to valet ($5). Right takes you to self parking. If for some reason that is full you’ll need to park further down the hill where they have a party bus pick you up. It’s actually a good time

It’s recommended calling ahead and reserving a spot on the patio, and yes, even for just cocktails.

For future reference: There is a speakeasy on the top level called The Green Room with an excellent drink program. It’s dress attire and only open Friday and Saturday from 6 – 11pm. Reservations are necessary.

St0p #3: once the sun is down

VEGGIE EATS

What to Know

A local classic they literally have a full packet of all California beers, it’s incredible. Talk to the bartender about your taste vibes. They’re very helpful.

This is one of those spots that can be either slammed or easy going. Try to score a table under the front windows or outside on the sidewalk.

What to order: Vegan buffalo wings, vegan italian sausage, bulls eye burger (this thing’s crazy) and usually anything on the chef’s weekly specials.

They’ve got plenty of board games if you’re feeling like going that route. That’s why the front window is so good, lots of unabstructed space.
